Auto-categories based on previous mappings does not work

When importing transactions from CSV, categories aren't automatically matched to existing categories based on value on selected field. I believe this worked perfectly 1 or 2 weeks ago.

Reproduce: I imported the same csv twice, the first time I set all the categories based on "Title". Second time I import, I still have to set the categories manually based on "Title", i.e. my previous mappings aren't applied/remembered.

On version: 0.26.5

    Hi, thanks for the report!

    I looked into this. The auto-mapping from the feature request you linked is implemented and works by name matching: if a value in your selected field (e.g. "Title") matches the name of one of your existing categories, the import wizard auto-links it on the Resolve step.

    What it doesn't do is remember arbitrary mappings from a previous import – e.g. if you mapped Title "Foo Bar 1234" to a category named "Groceries", there's nothing stored to reapply next time, since the names don't match.

    That has always been the case, so I'd like to figure out which situation you're hitting. Could you tell me:

    1. Do your category names exactly match the values in the "Title" field, or are they different (e.g. Title "Foo Bar 1234" → category "Groceries")?

    2. Are your Title values / category names in a non-Latin script (Cyrillic, etc.)? I found a bug where non-Latin names fail to auto-match – if that's your case, the fix is straightforward and I'll ship it.

    If it's #1 with different names, that would be a new feature (remembering your previous mappings) – happy to consider it, but it's separate from the auto-mapping that exists today.

      “What it doesn't do is remember arbitrary mappings from a previous import” - exactly what I meant. From previous tests on my end I thought this was a thing, but obviously not then, sorry 😄

      But yes, I’d love this as a feature! Do you want me to create a new post or keep this one? Unfortunately I’m not able to modify the contents of this one for some reason.
