Drill down into subcategories in Analytics and Expenses/Incomes structure
The problem I organize everything with nested categories, and my roots are deliberately broad: Personal and Business, each with two or three levels underneath (Business › Rental units › Cleaning). The question I ask every month is "where did the money inside Personal go?", and every category view in MoneyMatter stops at the root: Dashboard → Expenses structure: root categories only, expenses only, and a slice can't be clicked to see what's inside it. Analytics → Trends comparison → Category breakdown: root categories only. The % beside each row is the change vs. the previous period, so there's no share of the total. Filtering the page by a category does show subcategories, but flattened to the leaves, so the middle level disappears (Business jumps straight to Cleaning, skipping Rental units). Analytics → Pivot (Category + Subcategory): also root → leaf, skipping the middle level, and dense for this question. With broad roots, a spend-by-category chart mostly says "Personal vs. Business", and the real question ends up answered by filtering the transactions list by hand. I'm moving from Buxfer, whose Insights drilldown (click a slice to see what's inside it, breadcrumb to go back) was the report I relied on most. Proposal Two small steps, each useful on its own. 1. Analytics: a drillable category breakdown (Trends comparison) Clicking a category in Category breakdown re-scopes the page to it: the breakdown lists its direct subcategories (each including everything below it), the Monthly comparison bars re-stack by those subcategories, and a breadcrumb at the top (All › Personal › Food) goes back up. Money booked on the parent itself, not in any subcategory, shows as its own row ("Food · no subcategory"). Each row shows its amount, its share of the current level, and the change vs. the previous period. The same on the Income tab. A link from each level to Transactions, filtered by that category and its subcategories. 2. Dashboard: drill in place in Expenses structure Clicking a slice drills into it inside the widget, with a breadcrumb or back button to go up. An expenses/income switch in the widget settings. An "Open in Analytics" link that keeps the category and the period. Nothing else: no list, trend or transactions. The widget stays a glance. No backend changes needed. GET /stats/spendings-by-categories already rolls each leg up to its nearest selected ancestor, so categoryIds = [node, ...childrenOf(node)] returns exactly one level, with node itself holding the "no subcategory" part. Splits and linked refunds keep going through the existing allocation engine. Prototype I built this as a standalone screen in a small companion app I use with my self-hosted instance (it only talks to MoneyMatter's API). It sends every category id once per period, so each category comes back on its own and the client rolls the tree up: drilling never waits on the network, and the totals match the Expenses structure donut to the cent on my real data (v0.32.0, d666874). The screenshots use synthetic data.
Mortgage enhancement
We need to enhance the mortgage section and its related features. There should be a historical visualization showing how the split between interest payments and principal repayments has evolved over time. My monthly mortgage payment consists of both interest and principal repayment. I’m currently splitting the transaction into two parts but I can’t link the principal repayment part to the mortgage account. It only allows me to transfer or link the full transaction amount.
Trash for deleted transactions
Add a Trash for deleted transactions with: Restore Delete permanently Automatic purge after ~30 days Accidentally deleting a transaction can be difficult to recover from. Re-entering it manually creates a new record and may lose important relationships such as splits, refund pairing, and budget membership. This is especially useful during reconciliation, where a deleted transaction may only be noticed later when the account no longer matches the bank statement. Restoring from Trash should recover the original transaction and its relationships, not create a new one.
Dividends & shares splits tracking for portfolios
Portfolio Analytics
A portfolio analytics dashboard would provide users with deeper insights into their investments. Showing asset allocation, sector and geographic exposure and overall portfolio performance would make it much easier to understand diversification and identify areas that may need rebalancing.
Dashboard Enhancements 🚀
We already have a good dashboard but I think it could be enhanced with more widgets and improved design. Since the dashboard already supports customizable widgets, users could choose which widgets they want to display and arrange them according to their needs. I have some ideas for new widgets as well as some future widgets that could be added once the corresponding functionality becomes available such as FIRE calculations, life milestones and financial goals. I’ve also attached a sample dashboard created with the help of AI using an MCP connection which is another great feature of the app. I’ve posted comments about most of these widgets in different posts but I think it’s time to consolidate all the ideas in one place. Suggested Widgets Net Worth – Current net worth with 6 / 12 month projections. Net Worth Distribution – Distribution across assets and liabilities. ✅ Net Worth by Currency – Net worth distribution by currency. Financial Goals – Goals with target amounts, target dates and progress tracking. (TBD) FIRE Progress – FIRE progress and estimated target date. (TBD) ✅ Mortgage & LTV – Current mortgage balance and Loan-to-Value (LTV) ratio. Budget – Budget overview based on tags or categories.✅ Portfolio – Portfolio distribution and growth. Top Gainers & Losers – Top-performing and worst-performing investment funds across different time periods. Life Milestones – A timeline showing important financial and life milestones. (TBD) Financial Health Score – An overall financial score based on factors such as age, region, income, expenses, savings, investments, debt, and other available financial data. The score could also be benchmarked against relevant regional or age group data to give users a better understanding of their overall financial health. Once again, kudos to the app and its developers for already providing so many great functionalities. It’s really hard to find these many useful features together in a single app. 👏
Dedicated debt and loan tracker
Financial Health Score
It would be great to have an overall Financial Health Score displayed on the main dashboard. This score could give users a quick understanding of their current financial situation by considering things like savings, expenses, debt, investments and net worth. A simple breakdown of the score with areas that are doing well and areas that need improvement would help users make better financial decisions. Sample screenshot is attached.
Customised Investment
The current investment module can only track portfolios with formal stock tickers. It would be very helpful to allow users to create manual investment items within an investment portfolio. This can serve the purposes of: 1) tracking investment items which don’t have tickers (like US T-bills); 2) tracking pension funds etc which are not traded in the public market. Otherwise we are “forced” to keep these items under the “Bank/Asset” segment, then the calculation of investment performance, FIRE etc are not correct.
Retirement Planning
It would be good to have a Retirement Planning section where we can see how our future income and expenses are expected to be planned. For example, we could see how our monthly expenses would be covered by our investments, pensions and other accounts. We could also include life events, such as buying a car or flat, children’s education, etc., in the projection chart, along with Monte Carlo simulations and FIRE calculations.

Seems there is a vehicle asset tracking, but can that be generalized so that houses and other assets can be tracked as well?
Crypto and stablecoin currencies for accounts and transactions
I'd like to keep accounts whose balance is a stablecoin or coin (e.g. a USDT card, a BTC wallet) and log everyday spending from them as normal categorised transactions. Securities/portfolios cover crypto as holdings, but not spending accounts: portfolio cash is limited to ISO currencies and its transactions carry no category and stay out of expenses and cash flow. Today a coffee paid with a USDT card has to be either several investment records or a USD transaction that loses the real amount and that day's rate. What it would take: - custom currencies per user (name, symbol, decimals; codes like USDT, BTC, SAT) - per-currency precision (BTC 8 decimals, JPY 0, KWD 3, USDT 6) - dated exchange rates from CoinGecko, a fixed peg (USDT = 1 USD) or manual entry A working implementation exists in PR #757, #758 and #759 (parked for now).

Advanced Split or Linking two transactions
Consider to introduce a way to split/link a transaction across two or more account. Eg. Paying with vouchers AND Credit/Debit Card.
Rich Budgeting Functionality
Transform budgeting from passive tracking to active spending control. This epic encompasses all features needed to help users not just track where money went, but actively prevent overspending before it happens. Includes: Budget Alerts, Category-Linked Budgets, Recurring Budgets, Safe to Spend indicators, Spending Pace tracking, Envelope Mode, and Goals Integration. As part of this feature, we can close this ones: https://moneymatter.featurebase.app/p/widget-budgets-in-homepage
Financial Goals
Please add a Financial Goals section where we can plan and track both short term and long term goals, such as buying a car, saving for a flat down payment, taking a foreign vacation, etc. Each goal could have a target amount (either a fixed amount or a percentage of one or more accounts), a target date and progress tracking so we can see how close we are to achieving the goal.
Tag-based budgeting
I'd be really interested in is the ability to set budgets by labels/tags
Copy and Paste, Duplicate...
The ability to Copypaste or Duplicate a transaction and everything else, as simple as that
Add sankey-diagram
Integrate sankey diagram(s) in analytics
Custom Payday
Allow users to define their own payday instead of assuming every month starts on the 1st. Many people receive their salary on different dates (for example, the 25th of each month) and the current monthly cashflow view can show inaccurate information before the salary arrives. Supporting a custom payday would make cashflow tracking more accurate by aligning income, expenses and monthly periods with the user's actual financial cycle.
FIRE Calculator
A built-in FIRE (Financial Independence, Retire Early) calculator would be a great addition to MoneyMatter. It could estimate when a user might reach financial independence based on their current investments, savings rate, annual expenses and expected investment returns. This would make MoneyMatter useful not only for tracking finances but also for planning long-term financial goals.
Pivot table
In the pivot table can be usefull to show the total expense+income. For me is usefull to see the “gran total” expense+income in the same row without switch the dropdown. Thanks
More detailed transaction fields
It would be great to add more detailed fields to transactions, similar to how this is handled in Firefly III, in addition to the existing general notes field. For example: Attachments — Allow users to attach documents such as train tickets, boarding passes, invoices, receipts, or other relevant files to a transaction. GPS location — Store the location where a transaction took place. This could be especially useful when shopping at different branches of the same grocery or retail chain. External URL — Add a link to an external page related to the transaction, such as an e-shop order page, booking confirmation, or marketplace listing. External references — Allow users to store an external order number, invoice number, booking reference, or another identifier associated with the transaction. These fields would make transactions much more useful as a complete record of a purchase, while keeping the existing general notes field for free-form information.
