Reset well-known category names to user's language

I started using MoneyMatter before German language support was available. Localized names for default categories exist in the language files, but they are currently only applied during initial account creation. There appears to be no way to reset category names to their defaults or have them automatically match the app language when switching languages.

It’s not really a straingforward task tbh. Requires lot of edge-cases handling and I’ll probably end up as another AI feature. As a short and “current/existing” solution I can recommend running some local AI model via LMStudio, and just rename categories via the MCP. There's no need for the large model, lot of them can do it. Or if local machine is not capable of doing it, then connect it to OpenRouter or an existing AI subscription. It’s a $0.01 worth of AI tokens task, so honestly it will have a low priority for a pretty long time – just not really worth spending time on it. But I'll keep it open for others to vote 👍

Funny thing is I've already thought about using AI/MCP as a one time task but I couldn't assess how easy or complicated it would be to implement a more reliable solution. Thus, I just started this feature request. Thanks for your fast reply. I'll give it a try tomorrow.

AI/MCP is actually a more reliable solution, cause the chat contains the memory and so it can easily restore the category name to its origin. Yet writing a new code/logic to do a one-in-lifetime task is easily a point of breakage; plus it should be maintained and tested so it might delay other features development time indirectly and will slow down the CI :)

Give it a try with AI/MCP and let me know how it goes :) Today an extensive list of new MCP tools was released actually, so it should not be a problem at all

If this is already the most reliable/flexible and future-proof solution, I'm totally satisfied with that. Sometimes one need only a hint or assessment. I guess there are/will be a lot of use cases that can be easily fulfilled with AI instead of strickt code logic. I like that approach in favor of more important features. I will comment my result here. Thanks a lot 🙏!

Appreciate that! I’ll mark it as Completed in advance, if turns out as unresolved I’ll reopen it back 👍
