Running balance column in the account’s transaction list · Balance after each transaction, like a bank statement
Show the account’s balance after each transaction, right next to it, the same column every bank statement prints. Reconciling becomes a glance: put your statement next to MoneyMatter, and the first row where the two balances differ is exactly where the problem is. Firefly III, Buxfer, GnuCash and Quicken all have this column. In MoneyMatter I can only see today’s balance.
Today the account page shows the current balance, and Balance trend draws one point per day in the base currency. Neither can tell you which transaction a jump came from, or what the account held right after a given payment.
Who it helps
Anyone who reconciles against a statement. You compare balances line by line and spot a missing, duplicated or mistyped transaction in seconds, instead of adding up a month by hand. This applies to manual accounts, imported statements and CSVs, and bank-connected accounts when a sync skipped or doubled something.
“How much did I have on…?” Before rent went out, at the end of last month, on the day a payment bounced. The history answers it without any maths.
Catching drift early. A typo in a manual account shows up as a jump on the exact row where it happened, not weeks later as an unexplained Adjust balance.
Credit cards and debts. You see what you owed after each charge and each payment.
Cash wallets, shared and business accounts. Anyone who has to show someone else how a balance got where it is, like a partner, an accountant or a business owner.
People switching from other trackers. For many of them this column is the main way they read an account.
Proposal
A Balance column on the account page’s Transactions tab, showing the account’s balance after that transaction, in the account’s own currency.
Rows in date-and-time order, with a stable tie-break for the same timestamp, so the numbers don’t move around between reloads.
Balance adjustments count, since they’re part of the balance, and show as their own rows.
The newest row always equals the account’s current balance. For a bank-connected account, the column is anchored on the bank’s balance and computed backwards, so it never disagrees with the header.
On the main Transactions page, the column appears only when the list is filtered to a single account. A list that mixes accounts has no single balance.
Planned transactions don’t affect the column. (Nice to have: show them greyed out with the projected balance after them.)
Nice to have later
Include the column in exports.
Mark a row as reconciled: “the statement said X on Sep 30, and it matched.” Then the next reconciliation starts from that row instead of from the beginning.

Maybe It makes more sense only when viewing transactions from a single account, so it would be nice to have in the transactions table when we filter by a single account.
I mentioned from the “account’s transaction list” but the list currently shown in the account’s page is “incomplete”, so maybe it makes more sense on the transactions table, when filtered by only one account, I guess
